Because all of the light entering the eye must pass through this lens, when it becomes cloudy with a cataract it makes vision blurry.

Symptoms of a cataract include blurred vision even with your best pair of glasses or contact lenses, glare from the headlights of cars while driving at night, needing more light to read, rapidly changing glasses prescription, and distortion of color vision.
